“That one,” said Johnson on Friday, pointing to Africa, when CNN’s Gloria Borger asked the Libertarian nominee for President to identify the continent on a map. Johnson appeared briefly excited when Borger responded, “Correct,” but quickly downplayed his emotions and shrugged, casually fist bumping an off-camera aide.
“Yeah, I know,” replied Johnson, reclining and putting his feet up on the news desk. But Johnson froze up again when Borger asked a follow-up question about the candidate’s views on NAFTA.
The former governor of New Mexico started to guess the acronym, but gave up after he couldn’t get past “North… America… Fudge?” After explaining that everyone has moments of forgetfulness, however, Johnson proceeded to grin while reciting the names of all fifty American states, including North Dakota. The Presidential nominee then sat down and winked at the camera before lighting a cigarette and leaning back in his chair.
